Prisoner B-3087 Review

Updated: Jun 9, 2019

Based off of a true story, Prisoner B-3087 is the story of one boy's journey and struggles during the Holocaust. It follows a Polish Jew named Yanek Gruener, who was taken by the Nazis at just 13 years old. Yanek is stripped of everything he knows and loves, and forced to live under the torturous conditions of the concentration camps. Throughout the duration of the Holocaust, Yanek is moved around to 10 different concentration camps, expecting death at every turn. This novel does an amazing job of helping the reader picture the character's surroundings and experiences, which is really important (especially in a story like this one). Prisoner B-3087 is a page-turner, with the plot seeming to drive you forward and keep you sucked in. I originally read this book as a summer reading book, but it turned out to be so much more than a required reading. I really enjoyed this book, and though it a depressing story there is a really amazing plot behind the tragedy. I highly recommend this book. It's not too long, is educational, has an amazing plot, and is based off of the true story of a Holocaust survivor. If you have a reading list, add Prisoner B-3087 to it immediately. Thank you for reading!
